Metabolic Resistance Training
At Body By Lolo, Metabolic Resistance Training is a key component to every workout. Why? Metabolic Resistance Training (MRT) is one of the most effective ways to increase your metabolism, burn fat, and increase lean muscle.
What is MRT?
MRT is a series of exercises (usually 3-5 in a "set") that utilize multiple muscle groups at one time, and are done in quick succession with little to no break in between each exercise. Short breaks (15 seconds to 1 min) are taken in between sets. These fully engaging exercises work your body at 75-85% of the maximum heart rate. By working at a high, intense level, MRT creates what we call an "oxygen debt" (also known as EPOC - pose exercise energy consumption) in the body. Your body recovers from this oxygen debt by raising your metabolism post workout.
How is MRT different from Cardio?
Cardio burns calories - indiscriminately. In addition, the amount of calories your burn is limited to what you burn DURING your workout. There is no ongoing metabolic increase that continues to burn fat post workout.
As an example, MRT burns up to 500 calories in 30 minutes with a post metabolic increase for up to 38 hours. A 120 lb woman running for 30 minutes at 5.2mph burns approximately 250 calories with no post metabolic effects.
